Victory

"Victory over others brings satisfaction, but victory over ourselves brings joy."

~ David Hawkins Ph.D.

The above message is clear and should be carried in our hearts at all times. Too often we focus outside of ourselves and blame, complaining, make excuses, give reasons why this or that happened or didn't happen. Many times the reason things go wrong goes back to us: either we failed to do something or we did something we shouldn't have done. Hey, we're human; we all make mistakes.

The point is not to beat yourself up when something goes wrong. Instead, look at the situation. Analyze it, respond to it, or fix it. To accept the blame when necessary, and to take corrective action is when we have "victory over ourselves." Victory over oneself leads to self-mastery. Self-mastery leads to success.

Even when we have victory over others, that is to say in a race or contest, the true victory isn't really over the other person or team, the true victory is over our performance-what we believed, how we thought, and how we acted. When our beliefs, our thoughts, our actions are in line, we have set ourselves up for victory. And after all, isn't that the only true victory that of self-improvement and personal development?

So what is victory?

  • Victory is choosing to do the right thing.
  • Choosing to be honest
  • Choosing to be fair
  • Choosing to do our job
  • Choosing to make a life plan and set goals
  • Choosing to work hard to achieve our goals
  • Choosing to take responsibility
  • Choosing to be kind Choosing to help
  • Choosing to encourage

Making these choices is victory, victory over ourselves, victory over life. And no victory is sweeter.
