The Dream Afraid of Waking

This is a line from Bette Midler's song, "The Rose." You can listen to Bette singing it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxDXq9I3MvM.

When I heard this song a few weeks ago, I typed every word because I thought the lyrics spoke the truth about how many people live their lives; what I see in myself and others; and how far too many of us never wake our dreams.

I am going out on a big limb here when I say I know this is true. Why do I believe this? Because just like you, I have dreams; some I won't even let myself think about, yet they are still there, buried, waiting along with some whose time has passed.

On the other hand, there is still time for many of my dreams to be realized, and time for new dreams to take hold. So I am making a commitment to review my dreams, to look for new ones, and to find the courage to live them.

I think I'll sit back, listen to Bette sing "The Rose" over and over again until someone makes me stop. Why? Because when the time comes to leave this world, I do not want the ghosts, the shadows of my unrealized dreams, hanging around my bed, reminding me that I could have, or I didn't even attempt.

Now is the time to dust off your old dreams and goals, and to make some new ones. Wake up your dreams. Start today.

Have a great week. DREAM, and then Find A Way.
